History The Chesley Lawn Bowling Club was formed in 1898. It was moved to various locations along main street and 1910 saw the first flood lights installed.
In 1911 two rival dentists, Dr. Biehn and Dr. Crow, played grudge matches each noon for $5.00 (a weeks wages). Mr. W.D. Bell, Club President in 1918 offered to lease a 100'x200' parcel of land from the town for $1.00/yr. This has been the club site on 2nd Street SE, ever since. Women were accepted into the club in the early 1920's. It grew from 44 members in 1911 to its peak of 155 players by 1979. With our Adult and Junior membership, we have maintained approximately 75-80 members. The Chesley Lawn Bowling Club joined the OLBA in 1938. |
